1. Agreement and eligibility
These Terms govern your use of the ChowGuide iOS app provided by Ming Guo (“ChowGuide,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). By downloading or using ChowGuide, you agree to these Terms. You may use the app only if you can lawfully agree to them; otherwise, a parent or legal guardian must agree on your behalf.
2. App license
ChowGuide is licensed, not sold. Your license is personal, limited, non-exclusive, and non-transferable. Apple’s Standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies. Mandatory consumer rights remain unaffected.
3. What ChowGuide provides
- A browsable Chinese-dish guide.
- On-device menu text recognition with editable dish matching.
- Chinese, pinyin, and English ordering scripts.
- Dietary preference and allergy-reminder tools.
- A local food log with estimated nutrition summaries.
- Preference-aware suggestions for eligible Plus users.
- Curator-built table guides for eligible Plus users.
ChowGuide currently requires no account and does not provide cloud sync for meals or preferences.
4. Food, allergy, translation, and nutrition notice
ChowGuide is an informational and communication aid, not medical, dietary, nutritional, or professional advice. Restaurant ingredients, recipes, substitutions, shared equipment, and preparation methods vary. ChowGuide cannot verify allergen absence, vegetarian preparation, or cross-contact. An alert never means a dish is safe.
Always tell restaurant staff about every allergy and ask them to confirm ingredients and shared equipment. Do not rely on ChowGuide in an emergency. Recognition, translation, cultural notes, recommendations, and nutrition estimates may be incomplete or wrong; review the text and confirm your order with staff.
5. Photos and your input
You are responsible for images and information you choose to process. Do not photograph people, private documents, or content you are not permitted to capture. Current menu recognition runs on device. A future feature that sends content to a remote service must provide clear notice and updated privacy information before upload.
6. Free features and ChowGuide Plus
Core ordering features remain available without Plus, including menu scanning, dish translation and selection, ordering scripts, allergy confirmation, staff display, and food logging. The purchase screen describes the exact current Plus benefit before confirmation. Current Plus access adds preference-aware offline suggestions and one new editor-built Chinese meal guide each calendar month. Valid guide text is cached for offline reading after download.
7. Monthly and annual subscriptions
- The localized price, billing period, and included service appear before purchase.
- Payment is charged to your Apple Account after confirmation.
- Subscriptions renew automatically unless canceled at least 24 hours before the current period ends.
- You can manage or cancel through iOS Settings → your name → Subscriptions.
- Deleting ChowGuide does not cancel a subscription.
8. Seven-day trial
A seven-day free trial may appear with the annual plan only when it is configured for your storefront and Apple confirms eligibility. If you start a displayed trial, it converts to the paid annual plan at the price shown before confirmation unless canceled before the trial ends. Eligibility and availability vary.
9. Lifetime Access
Lifetime Access is a one-time, non-consumable purchase and does not auto-renew. It unlocks the Plus features identified at purchase, including the current monthly table guides and local suggestions, for as long as ChowGuide remains available and supports the applicable platform. It does not automatically include a future, separately priced cloud or AI service unless expressly stated before purchase.
10. Restore, cancellation, and refunds
Use Restore Purchases while signed into the Apple Account that made the purchase. Internet access may be required. Local meals and preferences are not restored with a purchase. Apple manages subscriptions and refund decisions. Refund requests may be submitted at reportaproblem.apple.com.
11. Availability and intellectual property
ChowGuide and its monthly, annual, and lifetime purchases are not offered in the China mainland App Store. Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan use separate storefronts and remain supported. Availability in other countries or regions may change according to App Store requirements.
We may improve, replace, or discontinue free features. Active paid access will be handled as marketed or as required by Apple and applicable law. ChowGuide’s software, design, curated content, and branding are owned by or licensed to us. Open-source components remain subject to their own licenses.
12. Warranties and liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, ChowGuide is provided “as is” and “as available.” We do not guarantee perfect recognition, complete dish coverage, exact nutrition, uninterrupted availability, or that a restaurant will follow a request. We do not exclude rights or liabilities that cannot legally be excluded.
13. Applicable law and Apple
These Terms are governed by applicable law. Consumers retain mandatory protections and local court rights. Apple is not responsible for maintenance or support except as required by law, and Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of the applicable app license terms.
